We are the Milwaukee Area Recorder Society (MARS), a chapter of the American Recorder Society and a group of recorder enthusiasts who come together through our love of the recorder and its music. We are open to players of all different skill levels and music backgrounds as we learn together through participating in an ensemble while playing a diverse repertoire of music.
Since the recorder was the flute of the 12th through 18th century, there’s an abundance of early music we explore. However, the resurgence of interest in the recorder in the the 20th century has provided us with many contemporary pieces written for recorder as well as arrangements adapted for a recorder ensemble.
Under the direction of James Chaudoir, we are exposed to a variety of music, learn about its history and interpretation, and are given tips on how to improve our playing both as an ensemble and individually.
As members of MARS, we get to celebrate our joy of playing together and the camaraderie of each other.
Come be our guest at one of our practices the second Sunday of the month from September through May (Calendar) at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1717 Church St., Wauwatosa 53213
